InuYashiki (いぬやしき), or Inuyashiki: Last Hero or simply Inuyashiki, is a Japanese manga series written by Hiroya Oku with an anime adaptation.
The story follows Ichiro Inuyashiki, an elderly man (age 58) who is both friendless and victim to an uncaring family. One night as he sulks alone comforted by the petty company of his dog Hanako, he is struck by a strange explosion in a public park along with another person. He wakes up from that explosion with small memory loss. He quickly realizes that his physical restraints have some how been cured. Later on he discovers his organic body has been replaced with a mechanical one, but still outwardly human in appearance. One night while walking through the very same park he saves a homeless man from being beaten up by a group of teenagers. After saving the old man he decides to dedicate himself to the helping of other people and overcoming his physical and emotional weaknesses. Though at the same time Inuyashiki discovers his new found purpose in life a sadistic, sociopathic teenager named Hiro Shishigami who in which has the same mechanical powers as Inuyashiki stands against his very ideals. The series explores the exploits of these two distinct individuals, analyzing the effects of superior power on human civilization and how fate constantly collides with the unnatural.
The Inuyashiki anime premiered on October 12, 2017. The series was produced MAPPA and is being directed by Keiichi Sato and Shuhei Yabuta. The script was authored by Hiroshi Seko and music was composed by Yoshihiro Ike. The anime is licensed by Amazon and can be viewed on streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Anime Strike, Crunchy Roll, etc.
